A Damage Prediction Model for Quantity Loss of Skidded Spruce Logs during Ground Base Skidding in North Eastern Turkey

چکیده
Nacrtak In Turkey ground base skidding method is frequently used to extract log material. Physical damages occurring on the skidded log during ground based skidding cause quality and quantity loss of the log. This damage is formed by the ground structure, mass of transported logs, friction coefficient and skidding distance. In this study to improve a »Damage Prediction Model« means to predict the quantity loss that can occur as a result of ground skidding on steep areas. Spruce forests in Maçka, Trabzon, Eastern Blacksea, was selected as the study area. The slope of study area ranged between 45% and 80%. In this context, a total of 318 logs were researched. These logs were skidded in 6 harvested areas where skidding is done both in summer and winter. It was determined during research that the types of damage causing quantity loss are breakage and wood wearing out. In the meantime, the quantity loss occurring as a result of breakage and wood wearing out was calculated as volume. A prediction model was developed by taking into consideration friction vector affecting skidded log, friction surface area of the log and skidding distance parameters. The model was developed based on data related to logs skidded in summer and winter. Damage prediction model coefficients were obtained for two production seasons by solving models according to the least squares method. Statistical significance of coefficients was done and damage prediction models were obtained with significant coefficients for summer and winter production seasons. This enabled producers to predict the quantity loss before skidding and to take necessary precautions.

Performance of industrial facilities and lifelines during the October 23rd, 2011 Van, Turkey Earthquake
Damage to essential facilities (e.g. lifelines and industrial facilities) due to extreme loads may cause remarkable indirect impact as well as direct physical loss. Hence understanding seismic performance of essential facilities is very important in high seismic risk regions. On October 23, 2011 an earthquake of magnitude Mw7.2 occurred in Van province in eastern Turkey. Several damages occurre...

Dust is a natural process in the desert areas. Strong winds on the dry soil surface make the particulate matter suspended in the air near the ground. In recent years, the influence of several natural factors has led to the further spread of dust in the western and southwestern parts of Iran. A storm take placed in the Khuzestan province and the northwest of the Persian Gulf, in February 17-19, ...
متن کاملShape of Skidder Productivity Function for Ground Based Skidding System in Caspian Forests
Cut-to-length (CTL) timber harvesting technology currently accounts for approximately 90% of Caspian forests. The technology involves felling, branching, cross-cutting, and then the skidder carries the logs to a landing, where the timber is temporarily stored, sorted and assembled for transportation to the mill. Cut-to-length systems typically require less labor, less access road construction, ...

Simulation of turbulence boiling, generation of vapour and predication of its behaviour are still subject to debate in the two-phase flow area and they receive a high level of worldwide attention. In this study, a new arrangement of the three dimensional governing equations for turbulence two-phase flow with heat and mass transfer are derived by using ensemble averaging two-fluid model and ...

Increase in soil bulk density and reduces in porosity and infiltration rate are the most common disturbances during timber harvesting and ground-base skidding. The present study was conducted to study soil physical properties e.g., soil bulk density, moisture, porosity and soil hydrological properties e.g., soil infiltration from ground-base skidding in twenty years since logging. After initial...
